You will be frightened by the Leprechaun

If you're looking for a classic horror film, go no further than Leprechaun. All of it from the ridiculous narrative to the over-the-top acting to the cringe-worthy visual effects is a disaster. The picture manages to be interesting and amusing despite all of its flaws. Warwick Davis is fantastic as the leprechaun, and Jennifer Aniston, in her feature debut, performs surprisingly well. Leprechaun is a great film to see if you like cheesy horror flicks. If you go in expecting to be afraid, you could be disappointed.

Warwick Davis's portrayal of a vengeful leprechaun has become the stuff of legend. In the film, the leprechaun is convinced that a family has stolen his pot of gold. He sets out to hunt them down, using all of his cunning and strength. Meanwhile, the family is desperately searching for the gold, in an attempt to placate the leprechaun and keep him from harming them. Davis's performance is chilling and unforgettable, making Leprechaun one of the best horror films of all time.

Leprechaun movie plot:

J. D. Redding rents the O'Grady farmhouse with his daughter Tory ten years later. Nathan Murphy, his 10-year-old brother Alex, and their dimwitted pal Ozzie Jones are repainting the farmhouse. Ozzie misidentifies the leprechaun as a youngster when inspecting the basement. By removing the old clover, he frees the leprechaun. Leprechaun explains to Ozzie that he is an Irish shoemaker who immigrated to America for money. Ozzie finds a rainbow and chases it in pursuit of a pot of riches after failing to persuade others that he spotted a leprechaun. Alex follows Ozzie because he is concerned about him. A bag containing 100 gold coins arrives in front of Ozzie. Ozzie studies the treasures and eats a coin, believing that it would heal his brain. They keep it hidden in an old well.

After ten years have passed, J. D. Redding decides to spend the summer at the O'Grady farmhouse with his daughter Tory, who is now a teenager. The farmhouse is now being repainted with the aid of contract workers Nathan Murphy, his 10-year-old brother Alex, and their friend Ozzie Jones, who is considered to be somewhat dimwitted. While Ozzie is scouring the basement, he overhears the leprechaun calling for help and mistakes him for a little child. He frees the leprechaun from the carton by removing the worn out four-leaf clover that was inside of it. Ozzie learns from the leprechaun that he is really an Irish shoemaker who emigrated to the United States in the hope of making his fortune. Ozzie notices a rainbow after his attempts to convince the others that he had seen a leprechaun were unsuccessful. He decides to follow the rainbow in the hopes of finding upon a treasure chest along the way. Alex follows him because he is worried that Ozzie would hurt himself in some way. A bag holding one hundred gold coins mysteriously materializes in front of Ozzie. After Ozzie examines the gold and mistakenly consumes a coin while doing so, they conceal it in an old well in the belief that this would restore Ozzie's mental capacity.

At the farm, the leprechaun gets J. D. to walk into a trap by pretending to be a cat and biting and hurting his hand. After Tory and the others take the leprechaun to the hospital, he rides a tricycle. Alex and Ozzie go to a pawn shop to check the purity of the gold. The leprechaun kills the owner, Joe, for taking his gold and polishes Joe's shoes before running away. On his way back to the farm, the leprechaun builds himself a little go-kart and gets pulled over by a police officer for going too fast. The leprechaun chases the cop into the woods, where he ends up killing the cop. The leprechaun goes back to the farmhouse and looks for his treasure while shining every pair of shoes he sees. After dropping J.D. off at the hospital, the group heads back to the farmhouse. When Nathan goes outside to see what was taken, he gets hurt by a bear trap set by a leprechaun. Outside, the group attacks the leprechaun with rocks and clubs and beats him up.

When they find a gun in the house, (blog) they shoot the leprechaun many times. When it doesn't work, they try to leave, but the leprechaun has broken the engine of their truck. After crashing the car with the go-kart, the leprechaun scares the group until Ozzie admits that he and Alex found the pot of gold. Tory gets the bag out of the well and gives it to the leprechaun. They go to the hospital, certain that the worst is over. As the leprechaun counts his money, he realizes that Ozzie ate the last coin he had. He threatens them because he thinks they're trying to trick him, but Ozzie tells them that O'Grady had a stroke and was sent to a nursing home. The gang distracts the leprechaun by throwing dirty shoes at him. The leprechaun has to go shine the shoes while Tory gets in her jeep and drives away. Tory goes to the house to learn how to kill the leprechaun.

At the nursing home, the leprechaun impersonates O'Grady. As Tory rushes from an elevator, the leprechaun throws O'Grady's body down the shaft. O'Grady cautions her that the leprechaun can only be killed by a four-leaf clover, which grows outside the property. Nathan and Ozzie defend Tory as the leprechaun attacks her at the farmhouse. The leprechaun gets injured while trying to get Ozzie's final gold coin. Alex ties Tory's four-leaf clover to gum and launches it into the (blog) leprechaun's mouth, melting him before he can kill Ozzie. Leprechaun's skeleton escapes the well and says, "I want my gold." Nathan uses gasoline to fire both artifacts after forcing the leprechaun down the well. Tory reunites with her father, marries Nathan, and has a child when the police arrive. While cops explore the well's debris, the leprechaun vows to recover all of his gold.

Leprechaun was released in 620 theaters on January 8, (blog post) 1993, and grossed $2,493,020 in its first week, totaling $8,556,940 in the United States. It was published on VHS by Vidmark in April 1993 and sold over 100,000 copies.

At first, the leprechaun was meant to get away and go back to Ireland. But there was one problem: Warwick Davis, an Irish actor who played the leprechaun, didn't have a work visa. Davis had to get a visa in just three days so that the last scene could be filmed, which is normally impossible. The office of Vice President Dan Quayle was able to speed up the process, which let Davis finish filming on time. At the end of the movie, there was a "special thanks" credit for Quayle.
